Congratulations to All Teams for a Great Performance at the Regionals
Submitted By Jason Boyd on Friday, April 15, 2016
Etobicoke’s teams wrapped up the season at the Southern Region Ringette Championships hosted by Paris Ringette.  The Regionals brought together more than 60 youth teams from across Southern Region.  We can be proud of the way our teams performed --- winning 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals and exhibiting great sportsmanship.

The U19’s won Gold in a tough 7 team division. After a first round loss, the team ran off 4 straight wins to capture the championship.  Their speed, drive, teamwork and solid defensive play were their keys to success.  The team exhibited great discipline by being the least penalized team in the division.  This win caps off a long journey for many of the players who have played together since they were U10’s.

The U16’s won Gold in a hotly contested 6 team division.  After finishing the round robin portion of the tournament with a 2 and 1 record, they had a tight 1 – 0 shutout win in the semi final.  This set up a most memorable final.  They came out victorious with a penalty shot goal with no time remaining on the clock to break a 2 –2 tie and win the U16 championship.   This team never ceases to surprise with their sheer determination.

The U14’s were one win away from making it into the final.  Overall, they had a good season with a tournament win earlier in the year.  They are looking forward to next season as well.

The U12’s won Silver in their very competitive division.  After finishing up the round robin with a 3 and 0 record.  They fell short with a 5 – 4 loss in the final.  Solid defensive play is the hallmark of this team.  This was one of the most successful tournaments that this team has had to date.  They had a great time and matured as a group.

The U10’s won a Silver in their division.  A 2 – 1 record in the round robin portion was enough to move them into the final on Sunday against a very tough squad.  Even though they lost in the final, they were very happy in what they accomplished this season; they just started playing league games in January.  They learned a great deal and these 8 and 9 year olds are keen to come back next year.

The U8 team participated in the Bunnyfest.  The team was formed a only a few months ago; the girls had a great time at the Bunnyfest.  They played two games, had a pancake breakfast, participated in crafts and supported the older players in their games. It was a very tired but enthusiastic bunch by the end of the day.  They are looking forward to getting an earlier start next season.
