Children's Ringette FUNdamentals

The Children's Ringette FUNdamentals program progresses through levels 1 - 3 for beginners who are learning to play ringette to more experienced players who will have a weekly practice and game in a fun and safe environment! The program is geared towards ages 4 - 10 and is focused on skill so that children are playing and developing at the appropriate level, encouraging more touches on the ring while continuing to learn the rules of the game.

Equipment for all FUN levels

Ringette players wear equipment similar to hockey including: helmet with face mask, neck guard, shoulder pads with chest protector, elbow pads, gloves, girdle with jock/jill, or hockey short-pants, shin guards, hockey socks or ringette pants, and hockey skates. A ringette stick and ringette-specific face mask will be provided to all first year players.

FUN 1

The FUN 1 program is offered to children with some skating ability (e.g. can fall/get back up, skate forwards, glide, stop, and introductory backwards skating) who want to improve their skating skills and learn ringette through fun drills and games.

  • The program is offered on Sundays at 2:00pm or 3:00pm at Long Branch Arena from late September - March, 2026. (Exact dates are TBD based on our ice contract with the City of Toronto). The exact session time will be confirmed prior to the program start date, based on registration demand.
  • Participants will be evaluated and assigned to appropriate skill groups within the first few sessions.

FUN 2

The FUN 2 program is for players who are at the next level of skating including skating forwards and stopping, are stable on their feet while skating with or without a stick, and can move backwards. They may have some (though may be limited) experience playing ringette.

  • Games for FUN 2 will be played at Long Branch Arena on Sunday afternoons at 4:00pm at Long Branch Arena from late September - March, 2026. (Exact dates are TBD based on ice contracts with the City of Toronto).
  • Weekly practices, focused on skating and skill development will be on Thursday evenings at 7:00pm at Park Lawn Bubble (FUN 2 and FUN 3 combined)
  • Games are played half-ice (lengthwise), including intra-squad scrimmages and playing against other teams in neighbouring Ringette Associations.
  • Requisite skating skills to include Fall & Stand, Skate & Glide with Basic Stance, Snowplow Stop (2 foot), and Backwards Movement
  • Ringette skills to include Carrying the Ring, Stationary Forehand Pass & Reception, Forehand Sweep Shot, and 1 on 1 Sweep Check

FUN 3

The FUN 3 program is for players who are more advanced skaters who can confidently skate forwards and backwards, stop as needed and change direction while moving. Prior experience playing ringette in a game setting is beneficial but not required.

  • Most home games and some practices will be played at Long Branch Arena on Sunday afternoons at 5:00pm from late September - March, 2026. (Exact dates are TBD based on our ice contract with the City of Toronto).
  • The team will travel to other ringette associations to play against other FUN 3 teams for their away games
  • Games are played on full ice, and the core rules will be taught and enforced (e.g. blue line pass, goalie crease, 2-line pass etc).
  • Additional weekly practices, focused on skating and skill development will be on Thursday evenings at 7:00pm at Park Lawn Bubble (FUN 2 and FUN 3 combined)
