ERA Learn-to-Skate Program

Help us deliver positive, fun skating lessons to kids and youth as a Skating Instructor or Assistant Instructor (Volunteer) for the Learn-to-Skate program with Etobicoke Ringette Association. We are looking for enthusiastic skating instructors to join our team and help make a difference in our community.

Skating Instructor and Assistant Instructor Job Descriptions

Instructor Responsibilities

As a Skating Instructor, you will be delivering skating lessons to youth between the ages of 4-11 years old. Responsibilities include: 

  • Delivering lesson plans based on the skating levels and progressions of each group. 
  • Teaching fundamental skating skills in a progressive manner.
  • Assisting in the training, supervising and directing of assistant instructors.
  • Facilitating opportunities for skaters to play and make new friends.
  • Preparing evaluation forms and progress reports. 
  • Providing a fun, safe, and caring environment for skaters to learn.
  • Adhering to all policy and safety guidelines.

Assistant Instructor (Volunteer) Responsibilities

As an Assistant Instructor, you will be assisting Skating Instructors in delivering skating lessons to youth between the ages of 4-11 years old. Responsibilities include: 

  • Aiding Instructors in supporting skating progressions of each group.  
  • Assisting Instructors with slower and/or preoccupied skaters.
  • Assisting Instructors in setting up drills and organizing skaters.
  • Facilitating opportunities for skaters to play and make new friends.
  • Providing a fun, safe, and caring environment for skaters to learn.
  • Adhering to all policy and safety guidelines. 

Qualifications 

We’re looking for experienced skaters with the skills and enthusiasm to be able to share their knowledge with others. You, as our ideal candidate, are a motivated self-starter who enjoys working with children. You are a great communicator who can inspire confidence and enjoyment in skating. You are also a true team player who will support the LTS team’s goals in creating a safe and inclusive environment for all volunteers and participants.

  • Instructors should be able to commit 1hr of their time each week or give advanced notice of conflicting commitments.
  • Must be minimum 15 years of age for Skating Instructors, 12 years of age for Assistant Instructors (Volunteer) as of Dec 31, 2024
  • Must be able to safely lift or assist skaters with getting up from the ice.
