The Learn-to-Skate/Play program is designed to teach young children 4 years and older skating skills. Children in this program start in FUN 1 as non-skaters or have very basic skating skills. Participants will learn about balance, striding, stopping, turns and falling through drills and games with an emphasis on fun. As their skating skills improve through FUN 1, they will learn some of the fundamentals of ringette. At the end of the FUN 1 program participants will be ready to proceed to the FUN 2 - Learn-to-Play component or our Novice House League (for players under 11 years old).
This program is designed to create a fun and social environment where young children can learn to skate and develop skills at their own pace. The program is led by experienced instructors with support from some of our teenage players (participant to instructor ratio is about 5:1 depending on skill level). At the beginning of the program, we offer nearly one-on-one assistance for non-skaters until they can stand and shuffle along.
